iPhone 15 Verdict: The Safe Flagship That Still Delivers

The iPhone 15 is the phone Apple makes for people who don't want to think about their phone. It just works, the camera is dependable in almost any light, and the A16 Bionic chip — last year's Pro silicon — means nothing you throw at it will make it stutter.

The headline change is USB-C, finally ending a decade of Lightning cables cluttering every drawer in the house. Paired with that is the Dynamic Island, trickled down from the Pro line, which turns the old notch into an actually useful space for live activities, timers, and music controls.

Camera-wise, the jump to a 48MP main sensor is the real story. In daylight the extra resolution lets you crop in without the usual mush, and the new 2x "telephoto" crop mode is genuinely useful for portraits. Low light is still very good, if a step behind the Pro Max's bigger sensor.

Where the iPhone 15 shows its age is the display: still 60Hz at a time when even mid-range Android phones ship 120Hz panels as standard. Scrolling feels noticeably less fluid than the competition, and it's hard not to notice once you've used a faster screen.

Battery life is solid rather than spectacular — comfortably gets most people through a full day, but doesn't leave much cushion for a heavy one. Charging is unchanged at a leisurely 20W wired.

If you're coming from an iPhone 12 or older, the iPhone 15 is a meaningful, worthwhile upgrade. If you're coming from a 13 or 14, the case is much thinner — USB-C and Dynamic Island are nice, but not transformative.
