Galaxy S24 Verdict: The Compact Flagship Done Right
Samsung finally gives the small Galaxy flagship the same camera hardware as its bigger siblings — and throws in seven years of updates to justify the price.
The Galaxy S24 is what happens when a company stops treating its smallest flagship as an afterthought. Where past base models felt cut down next to the Plus and Ultra, this one shares the same core camera system and a genuinely excellent 6.2" 120Hz display in a size that actually fits in one hand.
Performance is a non-issue: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy variant handles anything from gaming to on-device AI features (Circle to Search, live translation) without breaking a sweat, and stays cool doing it.
The triple camera — 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto — is consistently among the best in its class, with reliable color science and strong low-light performance across all three lenses, not just the main sensor.
Samsung's headline move is a commitment to seven years of OS and security updates, matching Google and putting real pressure on the rest of the Android market. That alone changes the long-term value calculation significantly.
The trade-off is a smaller 4000mAh battery and 25W charging that both feel conservative for the price — a full day is comfortable for most people, but it won't comfortably survive a heavy travel day without a top-up.
Samsung's AI features are genuinely useful day to day rather than gimmicky, from circle-to-search to real-time call translation, and they're unusually well integrated into the core apps instead of feeling bolted on.
